Chris Betcher is inviting teachers to speak about communication technology on his podcast -the virtual staffroom. In this particular podcast he is speaking with Ann, k-12 teacher in Victoria. Ann is a tech support, and she spends time in the calssroom helping teachers using technology. She suppors teachers with showing them how to set bloggs, wikies and powerpoints.
I believe Ann's position is very important and personally think every school should have technology support. Many teachers need this great support and not only they will benefit, but the students will too.

Learning world affairs through digital media by George Lucas
Learning world affairs through digital media by Edutopia is a short but important podcast. Children are excited to be learning about the world. They are leaning about things hey care about by using the latest technology tools.
I personally believe school children are lacking global knowledge therefore learning about different cultures and world affarirs should be a mandatory subject at all schools. Children are growing up in a diverse culture, therefore it is a wonderful thing to see in this video that this group of kids are wanting to learn about other cultures besides thiers.

Grading with games with James Paul Gee
Grading with games is another interesting podcast I listened by Edutopia. James is a University professor who is a great believer that video games are a great tool that should be used at schools in the learning process. James thinks that video games are a form of assessment, but in a fun way.
Playing games motivates the kids to learn. Children are active participants and can modify the games and design them. Games engages the kids with reading and writing. "Children learn by doing", says James, and games helps children get involved in class activities.
Using games changes the standard curriculum in school and allows children practce the unconventional learning style and be creative participants learners.

Harness Your Students Digital Smarts by George Lucas Technology Found ation at Udutopia
Reflection #3
Another wonderful way of learning is by using digital technology. This video is from a school in South Georgia where students are learning digitally. This technology connects students to the entire world, a great concept many children are lacking knowledge now days. Students are collaborating with eachother, and are also given the opportunity to figure things out by themselves. Chidren are very proud of working on thier own wikis and bloggs.
Some teachers believe that not all children can succeed by learning the traditional way, using paper and pen. Digital learning practices great independency, a wonderful tool to aquire. But again, I beleive this type of learning does not suit every child.

The Virtual Classroom by George Lucas, Educational Development by Edutopia
Reflection #2
Another interesting blog by Gerge Lucas is the internet virtual classroom. A virtual school grades 7-12, where children can learn online, a variety of courses. I personally think this is an amazing opportunity students have now days, but don't think it fits every child. Online learning is self motivating and not all children are able to motivate themselves to learn.
Teachers teaching the virtual classes are content and actually believe they can relate better to students conducting the online courses rather than teaching in class. Teachers are also happy with the time flexibility they have by teaching the online courses.
Students taking the online courses are happy wth the fact that they can fit other activities into their agenda, since they can choose the time of the virtual classes. As an example: this allows the competitive figure skater Zoe, do both studying online and concentrate on her skating as well.
Virtual learning is an amazing technolgy that has changed our world. I believe there are also disatvantages to this advanced technology. Children will be lacking social intergreation skills and social growth. As a mother, I think children need to be around other children for their social growth development.

Technology Provides Parents by George Lucas Educational Foundation
Reflection #1
I chose this blog because it relates to the topic of technology intergration. This blog is a great example of how technology is used in the school system. At Forest Lake Elementary School, all children have blackboards accounts, where their parents have access to thier children's work and grades.
With this great technology, parents stay informed and can participate in their child's education. This wonderful intergration of technology into the classroom is more than just teaching the basics computer skills to the children, it is enhancing their learning process.
I think this podcast is very interesting and valuable for parents, especially for the ones that are working full time and can still be involved in their children's achievement and keep track on their learning progress.
